Training tips for your Akita puppy

Tips on training Akitas. Whether you have a Japanese Akita, an American Akita or even an Akita Inu, there are some things you should know about this breed of dog.

When your Akita puppies first enter your home, they should be given names that you and your family like. It should be a simple name such as “Athena”, “Kahn”, “Jade” or “Thor.” You should use their name often when you want to get their attention. This will play a role in his training.

Crate training – Put some food into a dog crate and let the puppy enter on his own to eat it. Praise him when he goes inside. Let him get used to being inside the crate. Do this several times a day. Make it fun. Soon he will consider a crate his own personal room.
Housebreaking – Take your puppy outside after he eats, when he plays or is sniffing around the house looking for a spot to relieve himself, distract him by saying, “Kahn, out!” and take him to an area in the yard. Let him do his business and praise him. Keep doing this for a few weeks. Make sure to keep an eye on him, so he doesn’t make any mistakes. If he does, don’t scold him, just be more vigilant.
